If you or your children have been fans of the series, “The Crocodile Hunter,” you have probably heard the word conservation used a great deal on this show. While you may not ever have the opportunity to visit Australia, you can certainly mimic the effects of conservation by taking a family fun trip to the zoo.

Going to the zoo is a fun time for all ages, but especially children. If this is their first time, you can see their opens open in amazement as they look upon a polar bear or lion for the first time. In addition, going to the zoo with your children is a learning experience for them. Sure, they could read about it in books or see it on TV, but to actually come face to face with these incredible creatures is something else entirely.

Moreover, the zoos today not only allow for a fun time, but an educational one as well. In fact, more schools today are taking kids on day trips to the zoo to teach them about different animals as well as why conservation is so important.

If your kids are into snakes, or pandas, or elephants, now is the time to take them to the zoo and show them up close and personal what these animals really look like and how important they are to nature. You can explain why an elephant never forgets and they are the matriarchs of the clan, or explain why polar bears love the water and how they find their food. You can tell them that lions may be the king of the jungle, but it is the lionesses who gather the food.

The world of animals is one your child will never forget and, hopefully, they will become an advocate for them as an adult. Family fun time can be an adventure when you take your kids to the zoo. Give them the opportunity to learn as much as they can about different animals and different species. They will be entrusted with wildlife conservation values in the future; help them to understand its importance now.
